But it has been done just right.

When I went to see the show there were a group of maybe yr 12 or first year uni kids from the burbs hearing a good floor talk from the galleriest. He said all the things Nat would have. He then asked for questions and the kids just asked 'what do think of taggers'. It just didn't seem to have got at them. But I guess they had been preped to go to a graph gallery.kate smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14265086511948076041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2162584380830206372.post-73617728101792407832008-05-02T10:47:00.000+05:002008-05-02T10:47:00.000+05:00It was indeed great. I go to little openings and the big public galleries in Sydney lots and I can never pick any references to Aboriginal artists at all. Why is this?

This show makes me think that if I was playing around with Aboriginal art I might feel very tentative, to not be exploitative or crass. And I'd hate to be totally out of my depth in a field where there is recognised artistic expertise, continuing traditions and lots of academic expert commentators.

But after seeing this show, I think maybe it would be much better to have Aboriginal art treated with more parity.

So enough with the ghetto already!Dan J Casshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06074379043543769490noreply@blogger.com
